Cooling System

cooling system

Your vehicle’s engine sits in an unforgiving environment full of heat and friction. To keep the area from too closely resembling the earth’s core, a cooling system removes excess heat and dissipates or relocates it. If this system works poorly, your engine could overheat, causing an assortment of dangerous and costly problems.

How the Engine Cooling System Works

The passages that surround engine cylinders have antifreeze (also called coolant) flowing through them. When you start the engine, a water pump circulates coolant through the engine, and as the radiator heat intensifies, it flows through that, as well.

Using a delicate balance of air and water, the heat transferred from the engine to the coolant gets shifted to the air or heater core, and the engine climate stays balanced. As an important element in this system, your car’s radiator protects both the engine and condenser from overheating, and a poorly-functioning radiator will cause engine deficiency.

The parts of this system involve the radiator, pressure cap, water pumps/hoses, thermostat, and coolant. Regular service to the engine cooling system and its components will keep minor issues from becoming major hassles.

Engine Cooling System Service and Repair

  • Coolant System Power Flush – At least once every two years, experts recommend flushing and pH balancing the coolant. Our power flush removes contaminates, pressure-tests the area for leaks, tests the radiator cap, and cleans the recovery bottle. Afterward, we refill the system with the proper type of coolant for your vehicle.
  • Radiator Check – Radiators can clog, leak, or wear out in a number of ways. Depending on its state when you arrive, we will examine, clean, repair, and replace any parts needed, including the radiator pressure cap, which should be replaced when the system receives new coolant.
  • Pump/Hose Check – Leaky pumps or hoses can wreak havoc on an engine cooling system, so we inspect these and replace them as needed.
  • Thermostat Check – If the thermostat sticks (open or closed), the flow of coolant cannot be regulated, so we check this part to ensure optimal performance.
